As Roma prepare for their Europa League season opener against Nice, over 100 fans supporting the club have been arrested in Nice.

As per reports from RMC Sport, via IlNapolista, more than 100 fans armed with weapons were arrested in the French city yesterday. The reports claim that the rowdy Giallorossi supporters were attempting to provoke Nice fans.

Security cameras in the city helped intercept the crowd as they approached Nice’s old town district. Some weapons confiscated from the fans include brass knuckles and iron bars.

In a press release from the Prefecture of Nice, they confirmed “102 arrests for people identified as Roma ultras carrying weapons.”

The statement confirmed that “the individuals were stopped by the police and all the weapons found were seized.”

The prefecture also confirmed an increased police presence at the match tonight, “with approximately 400 police offers ensuring a permanent presence to prevent any disturbance of public order.”

The statement further revealed that there would be a ban enforced on drinking alcohol in the streets and nightclubs in the area would be closing earlier for the night.

While some fans may not be allowed to gain entrance into the stadium, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma will be eager to get off to a winning start.
