Optimistic!! Bayern Chief shares update on Real Madrid target’s future

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer is optimistic defender Dayot Upamecano will sign a new deal at the club as he continues to be linked with Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are reportedly looking at bringing in Upamecano next summer. The Spanish giant are on the lookout for a new centre-back which is understandable given that David Alaba is likely to leave when his contract expires and Antonio Rudiger’s future is also far from certain.

Though several players have been linked with the Spanish side, Upamecano is reportedly their most preferred option. The France defender, 27, has been at Bayern Munich since 2021, but could be playing his final season at the club as his contract expires on 30 June, 2026.

Bayern Munich have been working hard to renew his contract, but so far an agreement has not been reached.

However, in a recent interaction with the media, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer issued an update on the defender’s future.

“I’m optimistic to get a new deal done,” said Hainer, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“I’m hearing that he’s extremely happy at Bayern, he feels incredibly comfortable in the team, and he also feels incredibly comfortable with the coach,” he further added.

Talks over an extension have been ongoing for quite some time now without a breakthrough and Hainer’s latest comment will offer fresh breath to fans.

Upamecano has become an important figure in Vincent Kompany’s setup and would be a huge loss if he decides to leave in the summer.
