Antoine Griezmann seals move to MLS side Orlando City

Antoine Griezmann will bid farewell to Atletico Madrid this summer as he completes a move to MLS side Orlando City.

Atletico have confirmed that Griezmann, 35, had recently travelled to Orlando with their permission to finalise a two-year contract, with the option of a further year.

He will leave the Spanish capital as the club’s all-time record goalscorer, boasting 211 goals in 488 appearances, and having racked up 10 seasons for the LaLiga club across two stints.

Orlando owner and chairman Mark Wilf said: “Bringing Antoine to Orlando is a landmark moment not only for our club, but for our city, our supporters and for Major League Soccer.

“He is one of the most gifted, accomplished and influential players of his generation and his decision to choose Orlando City reflects the mission and culture of our club.”

Griezmann will return to Atletico training this week alongside his fellow club team-mates who have not been selected for international duty, and has pledged to deliver success in his final months at the club.

Diego Simeone’s side have qualified for the Copa del Rey final and have a Champions League quarter-final tie with Barcelona to settle.

“It’s not easy to put into words what I feel, because this club is my home and you are my family. It has been an incredible journey, full of unforgettable matches, goals, joy, and a passion that only those of us who feel Atleti can truly understand,” Griezmann said.

“But for now, let’s leave the future in the future: because I’m not leaving yet. I still have months left wearing this shirt, months to give everything in our stadium and away from it, to lift that Copa del Rey and to dream of going as far as possible in the Champions League. We still have many opportunities ahead of us to be happy.

“I want every minute I have left here to be a tribute to this badge. The best is still to come. We’ll do it as we always have: together. My present will remain red and white until the very last breath of this 2026 season. And my heart will be forever.”

Griezmann joined Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014 and won three trophies at the club, most notably the Europa League in 2018.
