Bayern Munich have confirmed that their head coach Vincent Kompany was taken to a Munich hospital on Friday accompanied by an emergency doctor.
The Bundesliga giant took to their official X account to share the latest development on Kompany’s health status.
On X, the German record champions wrote: “Vincent Kompany had to receive medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during a training session with the FC Bayern Amateure. The first-team coach had been watching the second team train. Kompany will undergo thorough examinations in hospital and remain under medical care. Until further notice, his coaching staff will oversee training and matches.”

Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, said: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our highest priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to help him recover quickly.” Kompany would receive “all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching staff, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”
Kompany had been battling a viral infection in recent days. That kept him out of the final training session and the press conference before the Champions League match against Arsenal (2-2), among other things.
Kompany’s assistant coach Aaron Danks spoke about his boss health on Tuesday, he said: “It is very important that he rests.” Kompany had, among other things, “felt pain in his legs”.
However, the Belgian was back on the bench for the match at the Allianz Arena. Kompany said: “As a coach, you always want to do everything and be involved in everything. I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, then of course I didn’t listen to my body, and eventually my body said: Now stop!”
