Hansi Flick faces tough test as ‘extraordinary’ defender is ruled out until December

Barcelona are set to be without Ronald Araujo for the first half of the 2024/25 football season with Uruguayan defender ruled out until December.
The Spanish giant are planning for the start of a new era under head coach Hansi Flick but the former Bayern Munich manager will have to organize his team without Araujo.
Araujo was unfortunate to pick up a nasty injury during Uruguay’s win over Brazil in the Copa America 2024 quarter-final. He had to be taken off in the first half and it appears that the centre-back has done some major damage to his hamstring.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Araujo has returned to Barcelona and is set to undergo surgery, which will cause him to be on the sidelines for a lengthy period.

The 25-year-old centre-back is expected to be out of action until December, meaning he’ll miss almost the entire first half of the 2024/25 campaign.
Undoubtedly one of the best in his position, Araujo helped Barcelona keep 11 clean sheets in all competitions last season. Barcelona may need to look into potentially strengthening their backline after this setback involving Araujo.
Due to their financial status, Barcelona are yet to sign a new player in the 2024 summer window. However, the La Liga heavyweights are interested in signing Spanish winger Nico Williams after his triumphant Euro 2024 campaign to bolster their frontline.
