Liverpool Champions League squad confirmed as three first-team absences explained

Liverpool Champions League squad for the 2024/25 season have been announced by the club with three first-team players snubbed.

The UEFA Champions League group stage will be taking a new format this season and Liverpool are set to take part having finished third in the Premier League last season. Liverpool will play eight different opponents in the group stage – with a trip to AC Milan on Tuesday week in a repeat of the 2005 and 2007 finals.

Arne Slot’s side also host Bologna, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Lille during the first stage and travel to RB Leipzig and Girona before finishing at PSV Eindhoven in late January.

Liverpool have now chosen a squad of 24 players who will represent them at the tournament.

The list includes new signing Federico Chiesa and Academy youngsters Tom Hill, Amara Nallo and Trey Nyoni, the 17-year-old midfielder broke into the first team and impressed on the US tour this summer.

However, Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley are missing from the list, the trio while eligible can instead be named in ‘List B’ due to their ages and club-trained status.

LIVERPOOL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SQUAD LIST A:

Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Chiesa, Diaz, Endo, Gakpo, Gomez, Gravenberch, Hill, Jaros, Jones, Jota, Kelleher, Konate, Mac Allister, Morton, Nallo, Nunez, Nyoni, Robertson, Salah, Szoboszlai, Tsimikas, Van Dijk.

LIVERPOOL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SQUAD  LIST B (includes): Bradley, Elliott, Quansah, McConnell, Davies.

Explaining the requirements, UEFA’s regulations state: “A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 2003 and has, since his 15th birthday, been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years, or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.

“Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption.”
