Mauricio Pochettino appointed new head coach of US Men’s National Team

Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has been confirmed as the new head coach of the US Men’s national team. His appointment was confirmed by the US Soccer Federation.

The announcement was made before US 1-1 draw against New Zealand in a friendly. Pochettino’s first games in charge will be next month, during the October international break.

“Mauricio is a serial winner with a deep passion for player development and a proven ability to build cohesive and competitive teams. His track record speaks for itself, and I am confident that he is the right choice to harness the immense potential within our talented squad. We are thrilled to have Mauricio on board as we embark on this exciting journey to achieve success on the global stage.”
Matt Crocker, USSF sporting director spoke about the appointment.

Pochettino left Chelsea at the end of last season by mutual agreement. The Argentine has since been linked with different jobs including England’s men national team.

With the US men’s national team now his new home, Pochettinos’ concern now is getting the team ready for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico (with all three getting automatic bids).

The appointment means that both the US Men’s and the US Women’s National Teams are currently led by ex-Chelsea coaches, with Emma Hayes already winning Olympic Gold in her brief time in charge of the USWNT.
