Ruud van Nistelrooy reveals stance on Man Utd future, sends Amorim message

Ruud van Nistelrooy has clarified his Manchester United future as the Dutchman makes a winning start to life as interim manager.

With Erik ten Hag now out of the picture, Van Nistelrooy led United out on Wednesday night and his team recorded a convincing 5-2 win over Leicester City. Goals from Casemiro [2], Bruno Fernandes [2] and Alejandro Garnacho sealed their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

However, Erik ten Hags’ potential replacement, Ruben Amorim, was the biggest talking point ahead of the match at Old Trafford.

United have agreed to activate Amorim’s release clause of around €10 million [£8.3m] after he verbally agreed to take the hot seat at Manchester.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Van Nistelrooy was asked if he was open to staying.

“Of course,” he told Sky Sports. “I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future that’s what I’m here for.”

Van Nistelrooy reiterated his desire to work under the next manager, whether Ruben Amorim or another candidate.

He added: “I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change.”

Van Nistelrooy will continue his role as the interim manager as United face Chelsea on Sunday. United have confirmed that the Dutchman will take up pre-match media duties ahead of the Premier League clash.
