Barcelona City Council confirms Camp Nou return date for Barca

Camp Nou currently under renovation

Barcelona have been playing their home games at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium while their famous home ground has been undergoing renovation.

Though it was expected that Barcelona will return to Camp Nou this year, that timeline is not feasible with the City Council now providing a more realistic timeline.

According to David Escudé from Barcelona City Council, the expectation is now for the team to return in February 2025.

“The date given by the vice-president Elena Fort at the last Assembly, which is February, is the one we also have. There is no change,” he told RAC1.

“It is very intelligent on the part of the club to secure a few more dates, as we have already seen that there has been rain and there could be any unforeseen event, but the information we have is for February.”

The Camp Nou is expected to reopen at around 60% capacity initially, with around 63,000 spectators, and the renovation is scheduled to be fully completed by 2026.

Despite playing some miles away from their home ground, Barcelona have started the new season under Hansi Flick in an impressive manner.

Barcelona currently top the La Liga standings and are well placed in the new look UEFA Champions League group stage table.

With no international break until March 2025, Barcelona will be eager to leave a mark in Spanish football and Europe as the team hope to return to its glory days under Hansi Flick.
