Arne Slot picks Liverpool player who was not 100% in the first half vs Newcastle

Liverpool dropped two point on Wednesday night as Newcastle United fought back to draw 3-3 in front of their supporters.

Arne Slot‘s team were not at their best in the first 45 minutes and it was not surprising when they conceded first. The Reds were a lot better in the second half and levelled the game very quickly, but both sides scored two more and had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

Speaking after the match, Slot revealed a Liverpool player who failed to play at the highest level in the first half but ended up playing a huge role in the game.

According to Slot, despite scoring twice and assisting the other Liverpool goal to help his side secure a point, Mohamed Salah was not at his best in the first half.

In his press conference after the game, Slot said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “It is difficult for me to predict the long-term future, the only thing I can expect or predict is he is in a very good place at the moment.

“He plays in a very good team that provides him with good opportunities and then he is able to do special things.

“What makes him even more special for me is before we scored for 1-1 you thought, ‘He is not playing his best game today,’ but then to come up with a half-hour with an assist, two goals, having a shot against the bar and being a constant threat, that is something not many players can do if they’ve played the first hour like he did.

“So, that is also what makes him special, apart from if you just look at the goals. His finishing is so clinical. A special player, but that’s what we all know.”

Salah’s contribution against Newcastle takes his figures up to 15 goals and 12 assists in just 21 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Egyptian forward will be out of contract at the end of this season and he’s yet to be offered a new contract at Liverpool. It’s been reported he might seek a new challenge elsewhere if things don’t change.
