Thomas Tuchel begins new era as England coach

Thomas Tuchel has officially begun his role as the new head coach of England men’s national team coach as he aims to lead them to success.

Tuchel signed an 18-month contract that runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup. The former Chelsea manager was announced as the new manager in October 2024 but officially begins work January 1, 2025.

He will be assisted by Anthony Barry who he worked alongside at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager Tuchel was present in early December at the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw where he saw England placed in a group alongside Serbia, Albania, Latvia and Andorra.

Undoubtedly one of the best managers in this generation, Tuchel has won 11 major honours including the 2021 Champions League with Chelsea.

Tuchel has worked with several England internationals including Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount. The German tactician has also worked with England captain Harry Kane at Bayern before his departure at the end of last season.

He takes the reins from interim boss Lee Carsley, who won five of his six matches after assuming temporary control following Southgate’s departure.

England’s men’s side have not won the World Cup, or any other major trophy, since 1966. Tuchel has been tasked with bringing huge success to the team.
