Arne Slot jumps to Mo Salah’s defence amid surprising defeat at Fulham

Liverpool failed to build on Arsenal’s shocking 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday as the Reds fell to a shocking defeat at Fulham.
In what was their only second Premier League loss of the season, Liverpool were defeated 3-2 despite taking the lead through Alexis Mac Allister’s goal. Fulham fought back with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz, before Luis Diaz’s strike made for a nail-biting finish.
Following the defeat, Slot found himself fielding questions about his team’s form and the futures of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, both of whose contracts are due to expire in the summer.
Slot hit back at critics, accusing people of wanting ‘to make stories’ about Liverpool after their defeat to Fulham. The Dutch manager instead highlighted Fulham’s quality and mistakes by his own team as reasons for the rare Premier League setback.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “That was a difficult spell of 14 minutes [three goals conceded]. Apart from [Fulham’s] quality and finishing, it was mostly to do with our errors. In general we are not making many of these errors – let alone three in one game. Our second half performance was so much better but it is hard to win a game at this level if you concede three in the first half.
“Unfortunately we lacked time in the end to score a third. People want to make stories which is their job. Many teams find it difficult to play Fulham. The second half performance was outstanding. We had chances but in the end we lacked time.”
Also, Arne Slot isn’t sweating over Mo Salah’s recent goal drought, even after the Egyptian ace failed to score against Fulham.
Slot reckons Salah will be back on the scoresheet soon enough. Slot said: “Maybe Mo should take it as a compliment because his numbers weren’t normal when he was scoring.
“The good thing about Mo is that he knows what kind of player he is. Mo will show up again, I don’t worry about that.”
