Scott McTominay has continued his good form with Napoli as the former Manchester United midfielder breaks a record that has stood for 63 years.

The Scotland international left Manchester United for Italy the summer of 2024 as he seeks a new adventure elsewhere. He has now found a new home in Naples with impressive performance week in week out.

McTominay’s performances in Naples have seen more uncomfortable questions asked of the transfer decisions being made at Old Trafford.

The talented midfielder bagged a match-winning brace in his latest appearance, against Torino, and has overtaken United legend Denis Law (10 goals for Torino in 1961-62) as the most prolific Scot in a single Serie A campaign.

That brace made it 11 goals this season for McTominay.

McTominay is also the first Scot since Charlie Adam (12 goals for Blackpool in 2010-11) to reach double figures in a single campaign in one of Europe’s top-five leagues.

Speaking on putting Napoli in contention for their second Serie A title in the space of three years, McTominay said: “It would mean the world, obviously the squad did it two years ago. We mustn’t get too high, as now we are leading the race, but we’ve got to keep calm, keep everything relaxed and go game by game. This game isn’t important unless we win the next and the one after that. So let’s stay calm and see where it gets us.”

Napoli are now three points clear at the top of the table with four games remaining. They will be back in action on Saturday when taking in a trip to Lecce.
