Arsenal reach 2026 UEFA Champions League final

Arsenal have secured a place in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League final with a narrow but controlled win over Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners came into the home leg with the scores level following a 1-1 draw in Madrid last week and got the job done in efficient fashion as they extended their unbeaten run in the competition to 14 games this season.

After a cagey first half which followed the precedent set in the first leg, Arsenal took the lead.

Jan Oblak could only parry Leandro Trossard’s shot and Bukayo Saka gobbled up the rebound. Those were to prove to be the home side’s only two shots on target all night.

Nevertheless, it should have been 2-0 when Piero Hincapie sent in a perfect cross for Viktor Gyokeres, only to see the Arsenal striker side-foot his effort over the bar.

In the end, it didn’t matter with Atleti lacking firepower – especially after Julian Alvarez, Ademola Lookman and Antoine Griezmann were substituted.

The Premier League leaders go through to face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final on May 30.
