Arsenal star agrees move to Premier League club in deal worth £25m

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is on the verge of leaving the club just a year after he was benched in favour of David Raya.

Ramsdale was named in the 2022/23 PFA Team of the Year and was tipped to continue his good form in the 2023/24 season. However, he lost his place in the team when Mikel Arteta opted to bring in David Raya from Brentford.

Raya arrived from Brentford on loan and has since joined the London club permanently.

Having played as the back-up goalkeeper sine the arrival of Raya, Ramsdale is now set for a new adventure. According to The Athletic, Arsenal have agreed to a £25m transfer that includes add-ons with Southampton.

The report claimed Ramsdale will be undergoing a medical in the next few hours and everything points to the England international joining the Saints before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Upon confirmation of Ramsdale move to Southampton, Arsenal will proceed to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol as a replacement. The 23-year-old Spaniard became a starter at the Barcelona-based club in March of last season as they secured promotion back to La Liga, but he would serve as back-up to Raya in north London.

Ramsdale will be making a return to the south coast.
