Arsenal duo set unwanted Premier League record in 2-2 draw with Man City

Arsenal recorded an impressive 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Sunday despite playing over 45 minutes with ten men.

Mikel Arteta’s side were denied the chance to move to the top of the Premier League table as they conceded a 98th-minute equaliser against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal held firm for 52 second half minutes as they kept Pep Guardiola’s side at bay. But City substitute John Stones broke north London hearts as he lashed home an equaliser at the death.

While all the players on the pitch impressed with their performance, Gunners duo Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz left the pitch with an unwanted Premier League record.

Timber and Havertz became the first outfield players since Opta records began during the 2003/04 campaign to play 89 minutes or more of a match without successfully making at least one pass to a team-mate.

Germany international Havertz tried to make five passes but none of them were successful. Meanwhile, Timber attempted six passes at the Etihad.

Despite their unwanted record, both players played an important role in keeping Arsenal defensive shape compact. They are likely to keep their place in Mikel Arteta’s team as they hope to bounce back.
