Atletico Madrid are prepared to have talks with Diego Simeone over his contract as the legendary manager enters the final months of his current deal.
Simeone has continued to be linked with international roles and clubs in Italy, but the Argentine remains fully committed to the project at the Metropolitano.
The hierarchy at Atletico Madrid have now taken Simeone’s contract extension as a top priority.
Simeone is currently operating under a contract that expires on June 30, meaning the sporting directorate must soon finalize their plans for the 2027-28 campaign.

Internal sources indicate to AS, that the club’s unwavering desire is for Simeone to remain at the helm.
Simeone arrived at Atletico in 2011 and has gone on to make them one of the biggest football clubs in Europe. Even after over a decade in charge, Simeone has maintained that he possesses the same hunger and energy that he brought to his first match at La Rosaleda in January 2012.
Atletico are not seeking a replacement as they believe Simeone is still the best person to lead their sporting project into its next phase.
Negotiations for a new deal for Simeone are expected to be relatively straightforward, as both the coach and the board share a common vision for the future. “Simeone wants to stay, the club, in principle, also and the agreement should not pose a major problem for all parties,” according to a report from AS.
This mutual understanding suggests that the paperwork will likely be handled with the same efficiency as his last renewal in 2023, which secured his services until 2027.
