Bruno Fernandes Hat-Trick 5–2 Win Over Ipswich

MANCHESTER — Manchester United secured their first victory of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign in emphatic style on Saturday afternoon, putting on an attacking clinic to defeat Ipswich Town 5–2 at Old Trafford.

Following a disappointing opening-week defeat to Hull City, Michael Carrick’s side responded under pressure, spearheaded by a masterclass captain’s performance and a brilliant hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes.

Ipswich Shock Old Trafford Before Fernandes Equalizes

Despite controlling early possession, Manchester United found themselves stunned in the 29th minute. Ipswich Town capitalized on a sharp counter-attack down the wing, allowing Leif Davis to arrive and fire a superb half-volley past Senne Lammens to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

United needed a spark to reignite their rhythm, and it arrived on the stroke of half-time. A defensive error by Ipswich allowed Matheus Cunha to break forward and slide a neat pass through to Bruno Fernandes, who hammered home left-footed to level the score at 1–1 heading into the break.

Second-Half Flurry Turns the Match Around

The second half completely unraveled for the visitors as Manchester United’s attacking intensity overwhelmed Ipswich’s backline:

Harry Maguire surged forward and saw his deflected strike find the back of the net off Jacob Greaves for an own goal, turning the match on its head.: Moments later, Greaves brought down Cunha inside the box.  Fernandes stepped up and coolly dispatched the penalty to make it 3–1. Fernandes completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute, reacting quickest inside a crowded six-yard box to tap home his third of the afternoon and extend United’s lead to 4–1.
