Chelsea eye £34m Seria A star as Marc Cucurella replacement
Chelsea are on the lookout for a new left-back following the sudden departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.
Cucurella was an important figure in Chelsea’s dressing room, and his departure leaves a significant gap in Xabi Alonso’s squad. The London club have since been linked with potential replacements.
Newcastle defender and ex-Blue Lewis Hall has been linked with a return to west London, while Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras has also emerged as a player under consideration by Chelsea.
However, Chelsea are reportedly monitoring another player to fill up the role.
According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, Chelsea have held talks with Juventus regarding versatile defender Andrea Cambiaso.
Cambiaso is capable of playing at left-back, right-back and in more advanced wing-back roles, and that flexibility is believed to have put him on top of Chelsea list.

Alonso is said to value players who can operate in multiple positions and adapt to different tactical systems, and Cambiaso fits that description perfectly.
Bailey reports that Chelsea’s recruitment chiefs are also convinced that Cambiaso would be an ideal left-back for their new manager.
Despite Juventus struggles last season, Cambiaso enjoyed another strong season and remains one of the club’s most reliable performers.
Across the 2025/26 campaign, the 26-year-old made 47 appearances in all competitions and contributed going forward with three goals and five assists from wide areas.
