Chelsea set sight on shock John Stones swoop after Man City exit

Chelsea are exploring the chance of bringing John Stones to Stamford Bridge following the defender’s departure from Manchester City, according to reports.

Stones is available as a free agent after his contract at the Etihad Stadium expired, sparking interest from several Premier League heavyweights.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are considering a legitimate approach for Stones, despite senior club figures previously attempting to downplay links to the 32-year-old.

The England international is currently on break having featured at the 2026 World Cup.

His experience and status makes him a suitable addition to any club willing to win on the biggest stage.

Aside Chelsea, Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the multi-time Premier League winner, as Mikel Arteta considers defensive reinforcements following injury concerns regarding William Saliba.

Chelsea are no stranger to adding veteran players into their backline. Thiago Silva joined the club late in his career and went on to play important role in the club’s success during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The London club are active in the transfer window and have shattered another record to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

Aside Stones, Chelsea have also been actively negotiating for Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. Other names on the defensive shortlist include Como’s Jacobo Ramon.

The club’s recruitment drive is focused on providing newly-appointed manager Xabi Alonso with the tools necessary to return to European competition.
