Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, who is also a target for Newcastle United.

The Blues manager Enzo Maresca is willing to build a new team and reports claim he wants to strengthen the goalkeeping department.

However, Alan Nixon of The Sun believes Chelsea must first offload one or two goalkeepers to make room for Trafford, which might give the Magpies a tiny window to try and snatch Trafford from Burnley before Chelsea can pounce.

Last season, Robert Sanchez was the first-choice keeper, with Djordje Petrovic serving as his backup. Additionally, Chelsea must find a way to move Kepa Arrizabalaga out of the squad once he returns from a loan spell at Real Madrid.

Trafford has been linked with a move away from Burnley following their relegation from the Premier League last season and it’s been reported that Newcastle recently attempted to sign him with a £16 million bid.

Newcastle and Chelsea’s competition for Trafford’s signature could turn into a fierce battle, even more so considering that the Blues already stole a player who was reportedly on the verge of signing with the Magpies in June.

Chelsea lured Tosin Adarabioyo and ended up signing the former Fulham man leaving Newcastle to get AFC Bournemouth Lloyd Kelly instead.
