Enzo Maresca confirms Man City captains for 2026/27 season
Enzo Maresca has confirmed the four players that will play a leadership role for his team on and off the pitch during the 2026/27 season.
Aside the change from the dugout, Manchester City also experienced the departure of some senior players in the squad. Bernardo Silva left as a free agent while Rodri was allowed to fulfill a dream move to Barcelona.
This changes means there are some voids left to be filled in the captaincy department.
Maresca has now announced that Ruben Dias will be the club’s main skipper for the year, taking over from departed Bernardo Silva.
Erling Haaland also remains part of the group, despite Maresca joking that the No.9 could not be the main captain because the manager needs his skippers to pass on instructions to the rest of the team when they score rather than celebrate and the Norwegian scores too many goals for that.

Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma will be also be part of the four-man leadership team.
Phil Foden had put his name forward but Maresca has opted for former Palace skipper Guehi who has already become an important part of the first team.
City’s record signing, Enzo Fernandez has not been instantly added to the leadership team. Despite being part of the captains at Chelsea, Maresca has refrained from naming him as one of the captains.
