Why Al-Ittihad failed to sign Kevin De Bruyne after agreeing personal terms

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been linked with a summer move away from the Premier League giant with Saudi Arabia his preferred destination.
Currently in the final 12 months of his contract, De Bruyne is yet to agree a new contract with Man City and the citizens are looking at replacing the Belgium international. Reports claimed Al-Ittihad – who already have Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho on their books – have agreed personal terms with De Bruyne.
However, the 33-year-old playmaker will continue playing at Man City next season.
Transfer expert Rudy Galetti claimed that Al-Ittihad are walking away after being put off by City’s demands when it comes to a fee. A £25 million ($32m) offer is said to have been knocked back, with previous reports suggesting that the Blues are holding out for closer to £50m ($64m).
With Houssem Aouar already being snapped up, Al-Ittihad believe they have enough quality midfield options to cope for now. De Bruyne may come back onto their recruitment radar in 2025 if he continues to head towards free agency.
Pep Guardiola will be relying on De Bruyne’s masterclass as City hope to win the Premier League for the fifth consecutive season.
