“Here to be Kylian”: Kylian Mbappe opens up on Madrid pressure

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has insisted that there is no pressure for him at his new club, noting that he joined the club “to be Kylian” rather than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mbappe secured a dream move to PSG over the summer on a blockbuster free transfer and went on to score on his debut against Atalanta in the European Super Cup. However, he failed to register a goal or an assist in his first three La Liga matches.

The French international eventually got on the scoresheet against Real Betis, scoring both goals as Madrid secured a 2-0 victory. Speaking after the match, Mbappe insisted that he is not feeling any pressure.

“The pressure I have is to adapt to the team,” he explained.

“I’ve scored goals all my career, I’ll score goals for sure. The goals will come. Three games [without scoring] are a lot for me, but it’s OK, I have the confidence of my team-mates.

“There’s no pressure, it’s football,

“I have my quality. I’m here to be Kylian. There’s no pressure. I’m happy, I want to work.”

The forward also told Real Madrid TV that it “was a great moment,

“I’ve been waiting to score at this legendary stadium, the best in the world. The fans give me a lot of affection, even when I wasn’t scoring.”

While Mbappe will be eager to build on his goalscoring form, the win against Betis pushed Madrid up to second in the table on eight points, but still four points behind leaders Barcelona.
