Mats Hummels holds talks over Premier League move after Dortmund exit

Former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has held talks over a move to the Premier League with Brighton reportedly interested in the Germany star.
Hummels spent the last five seasons with Dortmund and started their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid earlier this summer. However, he has become a free agent after leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.
Having previously turned out for Bayern Munich, clubs across Europe have been linked with Hummels and Brighton are also looking at working out a deal.
According to Sky in Germany, new Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler had a phone call with the player in recent days to discuss the project at the Amex and the “ambitions” of Hummels.
The report adds that the Brighton are “very open” to signing Hummels on a free transfer given his huge experience at the top of the game. If the deal is completed, he would join centre-backs Lewis Dunk, Joel Veltman, Jan Paul van Hecke and Adam Webster.
However, the report noted that the veteran player has not yet actually decided whether or not he wants to continue his career after playing 668 games. Hummels has only played for two clubs in his career – Bayern and Dortmund.
In his first spell with Dortmund, he won the Bundesliga twice under Jurgen Klopp and reached a Champions League final in 2012-13 before moving on to Bayern in 2016. He then rejoined Dortmund in 2019.
