Reasons why Barcelona are yet to sack Xavi Hernandez emerges

Xavi Hernandez’s future at Barcelona is back in the spotlight just weeks after he reversed his decision to leave at the end of 2023/24 season.

The Spanish tactician has earlier revealed he’ll be leaving Barcelona at the of 2023/24 season but changed his mind after he was persuaded by the club president and board members.

However, things have changed in the past few days with Barcelona president Joan Laporta not pleased with Xavi Hernandez.

Xavi made some comments in a press conference before the match against Almeria that displeased Laporta.

According to reports, Laporta was not pleased with the statement because Xavi had assured him that he could compete and fight for all titles with the team.

It wasn’t too long before it was reported that Barcelona are looking to fire Xavi with some potential replacement already in place.

However, latest report from journalist Fernando Polo, via Mundo Deportivo, noted that Xavi still has his job because of two reasons.

According to the report, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is determined to fire Xavi next week. However, some influential figures within the club are urging him to reconsider, as this decision could damage the club’s image and cost them €20 million.

The financial aspect is significant for Barcelona, as firing Xavi and his staff would cost €20 million, and hiring a new coach would require a similar amount.

Barcelona are currently in a financial problem and will not want to waste resources. However, if the upcoming meeting between Xavi and Laporta do not end well, the meeting is expected to hold next week.
