Manchester City’s Rodri out for the season with ACL injury

Manchester City midfielder Rodri will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury he suffered against Arsenal, according to multiple reports.

Rodri was substituted in the 21st minute of the Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday after planting his foot in an awkward position on the pitch.

Though the Euro 2024 winner was able to hobble off the pitch, initial tests has revealed that the Spaniard have torn cruciate ligaments. This indicates that the midfielder miss the rest of the season.

The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed by City, who are bidding for an unprecedented fifth straight Premier League title.

Rodri’s injury comes days after he hinted that football players are close to potentially striking due to the heavy demands of the sport’s calendar.

He claimed that the optimal number of games players should compete in should be between 40 and 50, rather than the 60 to 70 that City could have this season at least.

“If people want to see better football then we need to rest,” he said last week.

Rodri scored the winning goal in the Champions League final against Inter Milan and produced consistent and dominant midfield displays.

Pep Guardiola’s team didn’t lose a single Premier League match that he played in last season, with all of their three defeats coming without him.
