Spain provide update on Barcelona star injury at ongoing Euro 2024

Spain have offered an initial update on Barcelona midfielder Pedri’s injury after he was forced off in the opening minutes of La Roja’s Euro 2024 clash with Germany.

Pedri was named among the starting eleven in Stuttgart as Spain secured an historical victory over Germany. However, the Barcelona midfielder was injured by a strong challenge from Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and looked clearly upset as he departed the pitch.

Spain have said initial examinations show Pedri has suffered an internal lateral sprain in his left knee. Further tests will be done to determine the severity of the injury.

The initial feeling is that Pedri will not require surgery and he could be out for anything from two to eight weeks – depending on how badly his knee is sprained.

With the latest development, it does seem certain is that Pedri will not play any further part in Euro 2024 for Spain.

Spain play again on Tuesday against either Portugal or France. Pedri will be cheering his team from the sidelines. He will hope Barcelona target Mikel Merino pop up with another winner.

Merino who has been linked with the Catalonia club scored the decisive winning goal just as it seemed the game would be decided on penalties.
