Fortunate! Liam Rosenior breaks silence on Chelsea loss to Man Utd

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior believe Manchester United were fortunate to take all three points at Stamford Bridge as the London club continue their struggle.

Matheus Cunha scored the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge, as Manchester United continue their push for Champions League football next season.

The Brazilian finished stylishly on the stroke of half-time after another assist from Bruno Fernandes, who is now just two assists shy of equalling the Premier League assist record (20).

Chelsea put in a great performance but failed to score the decisive goal. Liam Rosenior’s team struck the woodwork three times by the end of the match, but United held on.

A disappointed Rosenior said during his press conference: “Tonight was a really difficult result to take. They’ve had one shot on our goal when we’re down to ten men off an injury. And then we have wave after wave of attack, crosses in the box, moments that we don’t take advantage of.

“I think we’ve hit the woodwork four or five times. What we can’t do is get into a cycle where we feel like it’s not going to be our day or we feel sorry for ourselves because we have to keep working.

“We have to turn this around. But I can’t, I will never lie, I can’t speak on things that I don’t see. I saw a team that were dominant. We were dominant from the first moment of the game to the last, but we have to take care of our moments better. And that’s what’s costing us points at this moment in time.”

He continued: “The goal today, they’ve had one shot on target in the game. I can’t remember another chance they’ve had. I could say that about Newcastle three weeks ago. I know, we know what needs to improve at this club.

“Because you cannot work that hard to score a goal and the other team have one shot and score. And we need to improve in that aspect if we’re going to give ourselves any chance to win a game of football.”

Rosenior admitted Chelsea now have a “mountain to climb” to secure Champions League football after losing against United. “It’s not insurmountable, but it gives us a mountain to climb and we have to go into Brighton with an idea that we have to win that game and kickstart the rest of our season,” he said.
