Gareth Bale set to takeover of League One club Plymouth

Former Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is in talks to be part of a US-based group aiming to take over League One club Plymouth.
According to The Telegraph, League One side Plymouth are in talks with an an investment group regarding a potential takeover. Bale has been lined up to front the US-based group in a bid to add some glamour to the bid.
Bale is set to join the growing list of former and active football players investing in clubs. In the past few months, many famous faces have invested in English football clubs such as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham, Tom Brady with Birmingham and Bale’s former Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric at Swansea.
Plymouth Argyle chairman Simon Hallett has been searching for investment and revealed only last month that a bid had fallen through.
The Pilgrims were relegated from the Championship last season and have just confirmed former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley as the team’s new manager.
Often ranked among the best in his position, Bale retired from active football in 2023 at the age of 33 after a glittering career that brought five Champions League titles with Real Madrid.
Since retirement, the former Tottenham Hotspur star has since spent plenty of time on the golf club and Plymouth could serve as a route back into football.
