‎Reflecting on his triumph, Kane said: “I’m almost lost for words. Being here in London makes it even more special. I can imagine how difficult it was for the judges to vote. I thank those who voted for me and my Bayern team-mates: you pushed me and made me better. A hug for Kompany. I’m happy to bring this trophy back to Bayern. It’s also an honour to be England captain. I’m very proud, and I also thank Tuchel and his staff. I want to thank Tottenham too. I wouldn’t be here without Tottenham. I hope I can be an example to those who dream of being the best, as I am today. To my children: I’ve brought home many trophies, but this one is special. I want to be a good father as well as a good professional. And to my wife, my best friend: you wanted this almost more than I did… You helped me achieve my dreams.”

‎Kane, 33, becomes the first English player to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001. That ends a 25-year wait.

‎England head coach Thomas Tuchel also celebrated his captain.

‎Tuchel’s message of congratulations to Kane, carried by the “Independent” newspaper, read: “Congratulations Harry on a deserved Ballon d’Or win! I ran out of words to describe your performances a long time ago, but I am delighted to see the football world officially recognise you now.”

‎He added: “To become the first Englishman to win this great honour in 25 years makes it even more special, and we are lucky to have you as our captain.”

‎The England boss signed off: “I know you will enjoy this moment with your loved ones, and then you will return to doing what you do best of all: scoring goals and winning matches.”
