Howard Webb reveals the ‘best’ Premier League referee amidst ‘bias’ controversy

Premier League referees are currently under scrutiny over their decisions in some matches ever since the new season started.

Some Premier League club have raised eyebrows over the standards of officiating in the Premier League and the usage of VAR. According to some club, the level of consistency in decision made by referees has dropped.

However, Howard Webb has singled out the best referee in the Premier League amidst the ongoing drama.

PGMOL chief Webb has been on the defensive recently, giving reasons why Premier League referees should not be called and why some certain decisions were made during matches.

While some managers have insisted that officials lack understanding of the game because they have never played it at a high level, Webb claims that there is plenty of talent for the sport among the referees.

“I can tell you it’s not John Brooks,” he told Malaysian outlet Stadium Astro when asked who the best player was among referees. “All of them are kind of frustrated footballers to a certain extent. And I’m sure if they see this back they will all be expecting their name to be mentioned.

“But I think probably the one I would say who has got the most talent is Michael Oliver. He’ll love that. He’ll love hearing his name in that. But he’s a good footballer.”

Webb will be hoping officials stay consistent with their decisions. The former refree last week said that there had been just two mistakes by VAR in the Premier League this season and that the speed of decisions has increased.
