Kevin De Bruyne set to snub City’s Club World Cup adventure, seek early exit

Manchester City are likely to be without Kevin De Bruyne for this summer Club World Cup tournament as the Belgium international reportedly seeks an early exit.

De Bruyne has announced he will be leaving Manchester City this summer but he still has the chance to play for the club at the new Club World Cup tournament. However, he would rather look for his next club rather than turn out for Man City in the US.

According to a report from the Daily Star, the 33-year-old wants to skip the tournament, as he’s worried an injury could scupper his next move. De Bruyne’s deal ends on the 30th June, and there are hints that the player has been angered by the decision to let him walk.

Undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in history, De Bruyne is obliged to play, as the tournament starts on the 14th June.

The former Chelsea midfielder’s have the right to extend his City contract by a further two weeks, should they progress into the latter stages of the event and onto the final on the 13th July.

However, De Bruyne is expected to hold talks with the club, in the hopes they will allow him the opportunity to take a break and prioritise his next step.

The inaugural Club World Cup will feature 32 teams from across the globe. City will play against Moroccan side Wydad AC, AFC Champions League winners Al-Ain, and Juventus in the group stages.
