Liverpool, Chelsea declare interest in Man City’s James Trafford

Premier League powerhouse Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford in the summer.

It’s not been a sweet ride for Trafford at the Etihad having been forced to play as back-up goalkeeper. The Englishman who joined City last summer is willing to leave his boyhood club in search of being a first-team football.

Latest report from Goal have now claim six Premier League clubs have expressed their interest in signing Trafford.

According to the report, Liverpool and Chelsea are among the teams monitoring his situation at City.

Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Newcastle have also expressed their interest in signing the 22-year-old. Newcastle wanted to land Trafford last summer while he was still at Burnley and made a bid for him before City exercised the matching clause in his contract.

Chelsea are looking at signing a new goalkeeper this summer, with Robert Sanchez proving unreliable.

Tottenham are also in the market for a ‘keeper as Guglielmo Vicario is expected to join Inter although a potential move for Trafford would almost certainly be ruled out if the north Londoners are relegated.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker is expected to end his eight-year spell at the club in the summer, one year before his contract expires.

The Brazilian departure will open a door at Anfield although the Reds signed Giorgi Mamardashvili in 2024 for £29m with a view to him replacing Allison.

Trafford joined City’s academy aged 12 and spent a total of eight years at the club before leaving for Burnley in 2023 for £15m. His second spell at the club has failed to materialize and he’s set for a new adventure elsewhere.
