Liverpool decide Arne Slot future with Champions League spot at risk
Liverpool have reportedly decided the future of manager Arne Slot if he fails to qualify the club for next Champions League.
Slot who won the Premier League title in his first season at Liverpool has failed to keep up with the momentum. Despite spending heavily in the summer transfer window, the Reds have struggled in all competition.
Liverpool were dumped out of the Champions League in the quarter-final stage by Paris Saint-Germain, and this has led to calls of Slot being dismissed at the end of this disappointing season.
“Slot is sleepwalking towards the sacking,” wrote the Daily Mail after Liverpool’s 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Manchester City in early April.

However, according to journalist David Ornstein, Liverpool’s hierarchy remains committed to its long-term plan of supporting Slot, whose contract runs until 2027, regardless of whether the season ultimately ends with a top-four finish.
Five Premier League teams will qualify for the Champions League next season and Liverpool are hoping to take that spot.
Currently four points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea, Liverpool will be eager to secure all three points in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Everton before another tricky tie against Crystal Palace at home.
Liverpool will still go away to Manchester United and Aston Villa, sandwiched by a visit from Chelsea. On the final matchday they visit Brentford, currently seventh and potentially still chasing Europe themselves.
Slot succeded Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in 2024 and was quick to establish his style of play, winning the Premier League title convincingly.
However, this season have been chaotic. With their performance in the league not impressive, Liverpool exited the EFL Cup at an early stage and were eliminated from the FA Cup by City, leaving their last chance for silverware in the Champions League.
In the quarter-finals against PSG, their campaign predictably ended with two 2-0 defeats.
