Liverpool sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen
Liverpool have completed the signing of right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old Dutchman joins the Premier League champions after four-and-a-half seasons in Germany, including a 2023/24 campaign in which he starred for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side as they stormed, unbeaten, to the Bundesliga title.
Frimpong also helped Leverkusen to lift the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in that historic 2023/24 season, followed by the DFL-Supercup in 2024/25.
Now, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool to sign for Real Madrid, where Alonso is the new head coach, Frimpong is expected to become a key piece in Arne Slot’s evolving side.

Frimpong told Liverpool’s official website: “It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer.
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.
“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
Frimpong started football at a young age and he joined Manchester City’s academy when he was just nine. He progressed through the club’s ranks and featuring in the Under-18s Premier League, Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy.
In September 2019, Frimpong joined Celtic where he immediately dazzled fans with his pace, dribbling and attacking intent. His debut season saw him earn Celtic’s Young Player of the Year award as voted by the supporters.
After one-and-a-half years in Scotland, Frimpong moved to Leverkusen, where he developed into one of the league’s best full-backs.
During his time in Germany, Frimpong shone as part of the Leverkusen team that ended Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance of the Bundesliga in 2023/24.
They also became the first team in German history to be “Invincible”, having played the entire campaign without defeat.
