Man City star to snub Bayern Munich and sign new contract

Manchester City are set to tie down Josko Gvardiol to a new contract extension despite speculations linking the defender with a move to Bayern Munich.

Gvardiol has caught the attention of decision makers at Bayern but City are working hard to ensure the Croatian international remains a cornerstone of their defence for years to come.

The defender has reportedly been considering his options as he mulls a new contract offer from Manchester City.

However, latest report from The Athletic claim the internal feeling within the club remains one of confidence; Gvardiol has become a vital component of the first team since his arrival from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.

Consequently, the hierarchy views him as an “untouchable” asset that they simply cannot afford to lose to a direct Champions League rival.

The 24-year-old, whose current deal at the Etihad runs through 2028, is now expected to sign a contract extension.

Gvardiol is understood to be settled in Manchester, both on and off the pitch, making the prospect of a move to Bavaria less likely during the current window.

The news of Gvardiol’s commitment comes at a crucial time for City as they prepare for a massive change in the dugout.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expected to arrive as the successor to Pep Guardiola, the club are eager to keep the squad together, with John Stones and Bernardo Silva the only players allowed to leave.

Gvardiol will be eager to impress their new manager as a broken tibia injury sidelined him for a significant portion of the 2025-26 season. Despite the setback, he still managed to make 25 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
