Ruben Amorim highlights one position Manchester United must strengthen

Ruben Amorim have been given the mandate of rebuilding Manchester United and current results have prove he has lots to do.

Despite coming in with high pedigree after his brilliant job at Sporting Lisbon, United have failed to keep up with impressive performances week-in week-out. The Red Devils were in top form last Sunday, playing out a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Amorim has introduced a new system and while some players have flourish, some players are yet to adapt.

United are now set to strengthen their squad this January transfer window while the door is also open for some big names to depart the club.

Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system is very much reliant on the wing-backs. The past few weeks have seen the likes of Amad, Antony, Dalot, and Malacia used in the position.

However, Amad has been the better option. The Ivorian started the Amorim era as the right-sided wing-back and quickly got to grips with the responsibilities that come with that role.

Despite this, he has started each of United’s last five Premier League matches in attack, operating as the right-sided No.10.

Amorim was questioned on why he made the decision and according to him, Amad, in the right wing-back position could be an option. The Portuguese tactician insisted he needed a left footer in front.

However, United lacks a natural left footer with Antony set to leave on loan.

Amorim’s suggestion that Amad, long-term, could revert back to the wing-back position only strengthens United’s case to sign a left-footed starter for the right-sided No.10 position.

United are likely to sort for a left winger who suits into Amorim’s plan and topping that list is Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

He fits the criteria as a left-footer, is Premier League-ready and is regularly scoring goals.. However, it’s still unclear if Manchester United will be willing to agree a deal with Brentford.
