SAD ENDING! Alexander Isak delivers verdict on Arne Slot sacking

Published on

Alexander Isak has broken silence on Liverpool’s decision to sack Arne Slot after the club’s fifth place finish in the Premier League.

Liverpool ended this season trophyless and despite securing Champions League football on the final day, it was not enough for Slot to keep his job as head coach.

Slot disappointing season with the Reds came after spending over £300 million last summer on three superstar attackers – Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and the aforementioned Isak for a record £125m.

The three players failed to make a big impact – Isak suffered a broken leg in December that saw him out for a large period of the season, Wirtz had a period of latency adjusting to the team before finding his feet.

Meanwhile, Ekitike impressed before suffering a season-ending injury in the Champions League quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool are now expected to bring in Andoni Iraola as their new manager, but Isak admitted to feeling disconnected from the club and sadness at Slot’s departure as the man that brought him to the club.

“I’ve kind of disconnected from Liverpool now that I’m here [with Sweden],” Isak explained. “It’s always sad when a coach has to leave.

“[The manager is] usually the first position to change when things go badly.

“As I said, I don’t know much about what has happened or will happen. I wish him all the best.”

Isak will now be eager to play a dominant role under a new manager, as he aims to prove his price tag..

He has already been showing signs of his old self whilst playing for Sweden in the build-up to the World Cup, scoring Sweden’s only goal in a 3-1 friendly loss to Norway.
