Why Arsenal have not announced Riccardo Calafiori transfer revealed
Arsenal are building a team that will compete for silverwares next season and have identified Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori as a top target.
Despite reports claiming Arsenal have agreed a deal with Bologna, the Premier League side are yet to announce his arrival.
However, despite delays over the confirmation of his arrival, Arsenal are expected to seal the signing of Riccardo Calafiori this summer.
The Gunners are understood to remain in negotiations with the Serie A side over a potential £45million deal, but there is every expectation the 22-year-old will make the move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Calafiori is currently on holiday after impressing for Italy at this summer’s EURO 2024 and is expected to secure a move to Arsenal after his holiday.
Once he returns from his break, it is expected Calafiori will travel to London and the deal will be pushed through so the former Roma defender can join up with Mikel Arteta and his new Arsenal team-mates.
The former FC Basel defender who can play left-back or centre-back was one of few standout performers in a poor Italy side whose defence of their European Championship crown ended with a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the last 16.
Arsenal jet off for a tour of the USA on July 21 and they are hopeful he can be involved in pre-season friendlies with AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool and Manchester United.
