Nottingham Forest are set to wave goodbye to their captain and England international Morgan Gibbs-White with Tottenham prepared to trigger his release clause.

England midfielder Gibbs-White, 25, has a release clause of £60m that the north London club are prepared to meet in an attempt to bolster Thomas Frank’s squad ahead of the new season.

Forest enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 season and are under no financial pressure to sell, however, they might have to let go of their captain just days after sanctioning a £55m deal to send Anthony Elanga to Newcastle.

Talks over Elanga’s move have progressed to such an advanced stage that a deal could be sealed over the weekend.

Spurs are also pushing ahead with a deal to sign Mohamed Kudus from West Ham in a deal worth £55m with new boss Frank seeking a deeper squad to combat their return to the Champions League.

Gibbs-White joined Forest from Wolves in August 2022 for an initial fee of £25m plus £17m in add-ons and Wolves stand to earn a 10 per cent cut from any profit made on his sale.

The talented playmaker scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 34 Premier League appearances last season. His impressive form helped Forest return to Europe for the first time since 1995-96.
