Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea future decided following Brighton defeat

Chelsea stumbled to a 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon with Brighton recording an emphatic victory over the London club.

The defeat at Stamford Bridge cast further doubts on the future of Enzo Maresca as Chelsea owners and sporting directors were seen walking across the field immediately after the 3-1 loss on Saturday.

Although this drew attention, it’s understood they went down from the director’s box early and cut across the field to avoid walking by the victorious Brighton fans.

Maresca said in his post match press conference that, like every other game, they come down for a normal post-match debrief.

Latest report from talkSPORT has now claim Enzo Maresca retains the full support of Chelsea’s leadership despite recent defeats to Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Brighton.

Chelsea have struggled for consistency this season and are currently without some players due to injury.

Levi Colwill is expected to miss the major part of the season while new signing Liam Delap is also expected to spend 6 weeks on the sideline.

Star attacker Cole Palmer also remain missing with a groin problem until after the October international break.

Chelsea have also not been disciplined. Four out of the Blue’s five losses in the past six months have had red card in them.

talkSPORT understands that Chelsea’s owners and sporting directors remain calm about current form, as they were during the slump over the festive period last season which Chelsea recovered from to get a top-four finish and win both the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup.

There is an appreciation a season of potentially over 60 games will have ups and downs.

Enzo Maresca and his team will now have to prepare for another tough week as they face Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the UEFA Champions League before locking horns with current Premier League champion Liverpool.
