Bayern Munich chief offers update on Matthijs de Ligt’s transfer

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has spoken out about Matthijs de Ligt’s future as the defender continues to be linked with Manchester United.
Manchester United are in pursuit of De Ligt as the Premier League side continue a new era with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe now in control of football operations. United have already secure the signature of defender Leny Yoro from Lille but are prepared to sign De Ligt.
Erik ten Hag confirmed United’s interest in De Ligt last month. ”We still have to wait and see whether De Ligt will come,” he told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dadblad last month. “But the good thing is, during my vacation I was out of the process for three or four weeks.
“During that period it was really the club, the newly established scouting and recruitment department, that brought in these players. The fact that there are also Dutch players among them is actually a coincidence.
“Two years ago I already wanted to get him, but he was already very far along with Bayern Munich. But believe it or not: he didn’t come specifically from my head in this process.
“I know that it creates a certain image, of course I understand how that works. But ultimately the criterion that counts above all else is: is the player good or not good? Does he fit in terms of character, age and of course the quality that we are looking for.”

Despite reports claiming De Light has agreed personal terms with Man United, the Red Devils are yet to agree a deal with Bayern. New update has now been shared by Bayern chief, Max Eberl.
“I will comment on the reasons when the time comes,” Eberl told Sky Sports Germany when asked about the Dutch international. “It is not yet that time. Matthijs played very well here for two years and that is why many fans like him.
“Nevertheless, you have to think about how you decide and also how the boy feels. He is still a player for FC Bayern. And as long as he is, he will get all the support from us.”
Manchester United will begin their season with a Community Shield clash against Manchester City before their first Premier League game. Hopefully, the club would have secured the signing of De Ligt.
