Real Madrid confirm extent of Eder Militao injury as Los Blanco’s injury list increases

Real Madrid have confimed the extent of Eder Militao injury after the Brazilian defender was stretched off the pitch during the 4-0 win over Osasuna.

Militao was about to compete for the ball in Osasuna’s penalty area when he crumpled to the floor unchallenged having planted his right foot into the turf.

The Brazilian could not continue the match as he was in pain. Medical personnel soon arrived on the scene, treating the 26-year-old for a number of minutes, before he was stretchered off.

Real Madrid in a statement have now confirmed that Military has suffered a complete tear of his anterior cruciate ligament.

He is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days and, although the club have failed to put a timeline on his recovery, is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

“Following tests carried out today on Eder Militão by Real Madrid’s medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament with damage to both meniscuses in his right leg. Militão will undergo surgery in the coming days” the statement reads.

Militao has suffered a torn ACL in the past. He sustained the exact same injury in his left knee 15 months ago, in a La Liga game with Athletic Club.

This injury saw him miss most of the 2023/24 season. It’s still unknown if he’ll be able to play a part in Madrid’s 2024/25 season.

Madrid are also currently without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, while David Alaba has yet to return to action after suffering his own ACL tear last December.
