“Far From Perfect”: Amorim shares brutal truth about Man Utd form

Manchester United are currently on a five game unbeaten run in the Premier League but manager Ruben Amorim believes his team are far from being perfect.

The Red Devils are five games undefeated in the top flight, and have drawn their last two fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham respectively.

Both of those matches finished 2-2, with Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt rescuing a point on both occasions for United.

United’s run of form in the last five games mean they sit seventh in the table after 11 games, one point off the top four. Despite this, Amorim admitted that his team were “far from perfection”, but claimed that the formation was “the start of something”.

“We are playing better, but we are playing better because we have more confidence, and that starts with good results, for example, against Liverpool,” Amorim told Stan Sport.

“We are getting better, but I can share my feeling. When we finished the game against Tottenham and I was coming back to Carrington, I was watching the game and my feeling was frustration; that we are far from perfection.

“We are far from being that team that can win every game. So I think we have a lot to do, but I also have the feeling, and I’ve been saying this for many months, that the formation is not the problem.

“The formation is the start of something, then it’s the dynamic, the confidence, the way we play, how competitive we are.

“If you look at the games we struggled in this season, it was not about the formation for me. It was the lack of intensity. We need to be perfect in this league to win a lot of games.”

Amorim has come under heavy criticism for his loyalty to his favoured 3-4-2-1 shape, often crowbarring players into unnatural positions in order to keep the system the same.

During his first year at United, he led the club to a 15th placed finish in the league, as well as a Europa League final defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
