Despite failing to impress under the guidance of Xavi Hernandez, Oriol Romeu will reportedly get a second chance under Hansi Flick.

Romeu’s journey back to Barcelona came with a three-year contract that includes a hefty buyout clause of €400 million, signed in 2023. The cost of his move from Girona was set at €3.4 million.

However, he failed to flourish under Xavi and was set for a summer departure. The arrival of Flick has now changed Romeu’s future.

In a recent update by Gabriel Sans on Mundo Deportivo, it has been revealed that Oriol Romeu has found new support under the guidance of Hansi Flick.

This support means that Romeu’s future with the club is looking much more secure for the new season.

According to the report, Flick has been particularly impressed with Romeu. He sees the midfielder as a valuable asset, someone who brings unique qualities that can bolster the team’s midfield, which is in need of more physical presence.

Romeu is set to begin his second season at Barcelona. As a player who came up through the youth ranks, the Spaniard now knows that he is part of the German coach’s plans.

Flick has been working with the team at the Ciutat Esportiva since Thursday, and it is clear that there is no intention of transferring Romeu unless a significant offer comes in to change the current plan.

There was some speculation about Romeu’s future with the team, especially with the pre-season tour in the United States starting on July 28. However, sources indicate that this assessment will not take place because the decision about Romeu’s future has already been made.
