Bayern chief fires, clarifies Vincent Kompany future after Barcelona defeat

Bayern Munich suffered a 4-1 defeat at Barcelona on Wednesday as the Germany side fall to their second defeat in the UEFA Champions League.
The defeat to Barcelona means Bayern Munich face an uphill battle in securing a spot in the round of 16, a development that has cast doubt on the future of manager Vincent Kompany.
However, despite the heavy defeat to Barcelona, Bayern Munich’s chief Max Eberl has reaffirmed the club’s faith in Kompany. Bayern’s hierarchy insist they back their current direction and have no plans to change course after a challenging defeat.
The club’s director of sport, Eberl, stated: “We believe in what we’re doing and we will continue to defend what we’re doing.” Raphinha took just a minute to kick-off the scoring – as he later went on to record a hat-trick.
Despite the setback, the Bayern Munich remains at the top of the Bundesliga. Kompany will now be eager to see his team transform their form in the domestic league to the Champions League.
Speaking after the match, Kompany noted that his team had been commended for their defensive solidity, which fell apart in Spain.
He remarked: “I think both teams did that today. If we look back to the press conference yesterday, the talk was about the fact we’re the team that conceded the fewest chances in Europe.
“We didn’t do everything right today, otherwise we wouldn’t lose 4-1. We must learn from this game and see what we can do better. That’s what will happen.”
