Chelsea agree surprise deal for 20-year-old FC Basel star, Renato Veiga

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Portuguese starlet Renato Veiga from FC Basel. His transfer will the blues fifth signing of this summer.

After failing to impress last season, Chelsea are looking at making a return to the top of football with various changes being made on and off the pitch.

Enzo Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager and the club have also made four signings this summer with Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall arriving from Fulham and Leicester City respectively with youngsters Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman also joining the club.

Latest report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano now states thata deal is in place to sign 20-year-old Veiga in a deal worth €14million £11.8m) with personal terms also agreed.

The Portugal Under-21 international is expected to undergo a medical in the coming hours ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge.

Veiga can operate in a number of different positions with Chelsea viewing him as an option at centre-half, left-back and in midfield.

Chelsea’s latest transfer business is coming after their top target Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori, who impressed for Italy at Euro 2024 before the Azzurri’s early exit decided to join Arsenal.

The 23-year-old, who can play at both centre-half and left-back, is expected to leave Italy this summer but latest reports suggest Arsenal have won the race for his signature.
