Erik ten Hag opted against signing United’s £36.5million star

Manchester United have moved past the era of Erik ten Hag with Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim appointed as his replacement.
Erik ten Hag won two trophies at United but the club’s form this season saw the Dutchman shown the exit door. Despite bringing in new players in the summer, United have failed to play at the highest level.
Latest report have now vindicated Erik ten Hag over the signature of Joshua Zirkzee.
Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for £36.5million in the summer but questions were being asked about the recruitment decision.
According to the Sun, Erik ten Hag didn’t even want to sign Zirkzee – and was then fuming that he arrived at Manchester United overweight.

Zirzkee came off the bench to score the winner on his debut as the Manchester outfit saw off Fulham on the opening weekend. But he failed to keep that form with the Dutchman firing blanks since that strike back in August.
Ten Hag’s patience quickly wore thin and Zirkzee found starts hard to come by. He’s been unable to find the net since notching against the Cottagers, a period which spans 15 appearances across all competitions, the majority of which have come from the bench.
His last league start came against Tottenham at the end of September.
Rasmus Hojlund has since come back into the team and Zirkzee has failed to impress when he’s been given the opportunity.
With Amorim coming in, there are reports United could be bringing in a new striker in January and this might see Zirkzee shipped out on loan.
A lack of goals has been a major problem with the Manchester outfit, who have endured their worst ever Premier League start and sit in the bottom half.
Amorim’s first task is to ensure his side score goals with Zirkzee and Hojlund expected to play a critical part. After ten games, United have managed to score just nine times.
