‘Boost For Alonso’: Ferland Mendy Rejoins Real Madrid Training

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy has rejoined the group in training this Tuesday, 170 days after he suffered a muscle injury during the 2025 Copa del Rey Final against FC Barcelona.

A popular figure in the dressing room, Mendy is yet to play a part in Xabi Alonso’s new setup and will now try to prove his worth in the team.

The French left-back spent almost half a year on the sidelines, but he could get his first minutes later this month.

Not expected to be a relevant player for Real Madrid this year, Mendy could potentially be an option to play as a center-back if Xabi Alonso decides to use the 3-5-2 formation. Both Álvaro Carreras and Fran García appear to be ahead of him in the rotation for the left-back spot.

Mendy signed a contract extension with Real Madrid immediately after the team conquered the 2024 UEFA Champions League title, and while said extension was never formally announced, the French defender will stay at the club at least until 2027.
